Well, here I am, posting my yearly addition. Who knows, maybe I'll actually post twice this year. That in itself would be a vast improvement over my rate so far. Any of you who know me however are not surprised by the lack of frequency that I update the blog. And very possibly some of you are discovering for the first time that I actually have a blog. In a strange, quirky way that puts a lot of pressure on me. Having no history with this lovely site, I'm sure your expectations for a flow of information and thought by me are quite high. After all, who would make a blog only to let it sit idle and not perform the very function it was created for. Alas, I defy the odds and any logical thought on blog posting. I will say however that my intention is to step up to the plate, take the bull by the horns, pull myself up by my bootstraps and give my loyal readers (are there any??) what they demand. Aside from all that is the practical consideration that you can check up on myself and my wife whenever you please instead of wondering if we were just a figment of your imagination.
So to it.
In consideration of time, it being quite early in the morning, I will do this by installments. Since my wife is gone, I don't either get to sleep or sleep easily, hence the early hour. But that is all part of the story.....
It all began on cold February night in 1977....and then.....the water was freezing.... 2nd grade....the glass fell...."turn right!"....sounded out loudly....and that brings us to 2007. Whew! that just flew by, didn't it.
In all seriousness, I realize that some of you haven't heard from me in years and some of you don't have a clue who I am, this is a public blog after all! So I guess I'll just pick it up roughly in the last year or so.
I've been going to a great church in Beaverton, OR for about 5 years. It's called Cedar Mill Bible Church. It's really become home for me. I've made a lot of great friends, had some great experiences, and been able to do a lot of great things. This is all interspersed of course with regular life which isn't always so great, but that's life. I've been working in carpentry for about 4 years, started not too long after I graduated from PSU with 3 degrees. B and I are coming up on our 3rd anniversary on the 24th of July. No kids yet, we're planning on waiting until next year, but we all know how "plans" go, don't we. And finally, our lives have changed dramatically since March of this year.
A good place to start is last year I suppose. I got a call from my uncle Mike regarding my grandparents (paternal). They were living in a single-wide mobile in Crescent City, CA -- have been for years. Anyway, their trailer was in quite a state of disrepair as were the finances in regards to the trailer. Living on Social inSecurity didn't give them a lot of money to throw around although they were getting along alright. Long story short the decision was made to sell the mobile, get my grandparents out of debt, and move them into senior apartments where their dollars were able to go a little further and life was a little easier. So we put a plan into action and accomplished the sale and move late last summer. Props to all the family who helped and all the friends who invested their time to make the move happen. It showed it's worth over the next few months as a lot of the pressures of life were lifted off my grandparents.
This was a good thing all around and considered a blessing since it made things easier for them. Money wasn't quite so tight, responsibility for daily living was a little lighter, and as we've looked forward toward the end of their legacy and lives here on earth we could all breathe a little easier knowing that affairs were put in order. Little did we know (anyone see "Stranger than Fiction") how timely God's plan truly was.
